44 HAVE DIED AND SCORES OF OTHERS HAVE BEEN SCARED FOR LIFE WITH SEVERE BURNS
News has come from one of our missionaries – Dave Taylor in Colombia – of a tragic accident close to their church plant and project in Pueblo Viejo. You may have seen his posts on Facebook about it.
Dave has established a relief fund for victims of the accident – 100% of all donations will go directly to the families most affected by the tragedy.
Read on for more information about what happened and how to give to this Love Offering.
PETROL TANKER TRAGEDY
A petrol/gasoline tanker overturned on the road. The driver had swerved to avoid an animal that had ventured there.
As petrol leaked from the overturned tanker the people from the surrounding area saw it as an opportunity to steal the fuel. A crowd gathered and began siphoning petrol, then one individual decided to steal the battery from the vehicle. This caused a spark and the tanker exploded!
Desperate people often resort to desperate measures. The economic gap between the have’s and the have not’s is huge in Colombia, especially in the region on the Atlantic Coast where this tragedy took place. Until the needs of these desperate people are addressed, they will continue to act rashly and remain stuck in the ‘cycle of poverty’ that they find themselves in.
Dave Taylor is already working in this area with a new initiative called “Alleviating Poverty in Colombia”. Every gift helps, whether it is a one-off donation or a regular gift.
To donate, please give via the 360Life Church in the usual ways, but specify “Colombia” as the reference if we can reclaim the Gift Aid on your donation. If your gift is not applicable for Gift Aid, please set the reference to “Colombia NGA”.
However if you use giving by text message, please contact us to let us know whether Gift Aid applies to the donation.
Thank you for your generosity.
